For people with disability

Employment and Financial Security is one of the outcome areas of Queensland’s Disability Plan. The goal is that people with disability have economic security, enabling them to plan for the future and exercise choice and control over their lives.

We are creating resources to support people with disability to access secure employment opportunities and have financial independence. These resources will be linked below when they are available.

You can find out more about what the Queensland Government is doing in the Employment and Financial Security outcome area at our outcomes.

Micro business

We want to promote the opportunities that owning and operating a micro business can create for people with disability. We have worked with Queenslanders with Disability Network to create videos and fact sheets to support people with disability interested in starting their own micro business.

We have created videos which share the stories of four people and their micro business. The videos show how each person’s micro business has created choice and added value to their lives.

Micro businesses are built around a person’s interests and strengths, and provide choice, control and flexibility. For some people, owning and operating a micro business can be a meaningful alternative to other types of employment.

Micro businesses are just one of many opportunities for people with disability to participate in employment. While many people with disability enjoy the benefits that micro businesses provide, micro businesses may not be right for everyone. It is important that people have choice in their employment goals. With access to the right resources, people with disability can contribute to society on their terms.

We have also created fact sheets about the benefits of starting a micro business, where to start and where to find out more information.
