Emergency hardship grants available to Scenic Rim residents impacted by severe storms Posted: Thursday 11 January 2024

Residents from the following locations who have been impacted by recent severe storms may be eligible for personal hardship assistance grants:

A range of grants are available to help residents impacted by the storms and flooding.

Available grants with a closing date of 31 January 2024:

  • Emergency Hardship Assistance – $180 per person, up to $900 for a family of five or more to support immediate essential needs such as food, clothing or medical supplies.
  • Essential Services Hardship Assistance – $150 per person, up to $750 for a family of five or more to assist with immediate needs following the loss of essential services at home for more than five consecutive days.

Available grants with applications open until December 2025:

  • Essential Household Contents – Income-tested grants up to $1,765 for individuals and up to $5,300 for couples or families to replace destroyed essential household contents such as bed linen and white goods.
  • Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme – with increased income-testing limits to help uninsured residents reconnect damaged services like electricity, gas and water. Up to $5,000 per household.
  • Structural Assistance Grants – up to $50,000 for uninsured, income-tested owner-occupiers towards the repair or replacement of a disaster damaged dwelling damaged to return it to a safe and habitable condition.

The grants are made available through joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

In person support is available from Community Recovery Pop-Up Hubs operating at:

  • Tamborine Mountain – Vonda Youngman Community Centre, 2–4 Knoll Road, Tamborine Mountain, open 9am to 4pm Monday to Saturday (closed Sundays) until Thursday, 25 January 2024
  • Tamborine Village – Tamborine Memorial Hall, 2760 Waterford–Tamborine Road, Tamborine Village, from 9am to 4pm daily from Friday, 12 January to Saturday 13 January, then again from Friday 19 January to Saturday 20 January 2024
  • Beechmont – Old School Centre, 1835 Beechmont Road, Beechmont, open 9am to 4pm daily until Monday 15 January 2024.
