Emergency grants available to residents across the Gold Coast local government area Posted: Thursday 11 January 2024

City of Gold Coast residents may be eligible for personal hardship assistance to help their recovery from the recent severe storms and flooding.

The ability to apply for hardship assistance grants has been extended to the entire Gold Coast local government area (LGA).

Available grants with a closing date of 31 January 2024:

  • Emergency Hardship Assistance – $180 per person, up to $900 for a family of five or more to support immediate essential needs such as food, clothing or medical supplies.
  • Essential Services Hardship Assistance – $150 per person, up to $750 for a family of five or more to assist with immediate needs following the loss of essential services at home for more than five consecutive days.

Available grants with applications open until December 2025:

  • Essential Household Contents – Income-tested grants up to $1,765 for individuals and up to $5,300 for couples or families to replace destroyed essential household contents such as bed linen and white goods.
  • Essential Services Safety and Reconnection Scheme – with increased income-testing limits to help uninsured residents reconnect damaged services like electricity, gas and water. Up to $5,000 per household.
  • Structural Assistance Grants – up to $50,000 for uninsured, income-tested owner-occupiers towards the repair or replacement of a disaster damaged dwelling damaged to return it to a safe and habitable condition.

The grants are made available through joint Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.

You can also visit in person one of our Community Recovery Hubs operating in the Gold Coast LGA for support. These are located at:

  • Upper Coomera – Upper Coomera Centre, 90 Reserve Rd, Upper Coomera from 9am to 4pm daily
  • Mudgeeraba – Mudgeeraba Community Centre, Firth Park Somerset Drive, Mudgeeraba from 9am to 4pm daily.

Community Recovery Pop-up Hubs are also operating at:

  • Beechmont – Old School Centre, 1835 Beechmont Rd Beechmont from 9am to 4pm until Monday 15 January
  • Guanaba – Guanaba Rural Fire Brigade, 33 Tarata Rd, Guanaba, from 9am to 4pm Friday 12 January to Sunday 14 January
  • Helensvale – Helensvale Community and Cultural Centre, 62 John Overall Drive, Helensvale, from 9am to 4pm daily until Sunday 21 January.
