Path to Treaty
The Path to Treaty is shared journey between the Queensland Government, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous people – a key reform with the ultimate goal of negotiating a treaty, or treaties.
The Path to Treaty is for the benefit of all Queenslanders and provides an opportunity to cultivate a new relationship with First Nations peoples and share in more than 65,000 years of rich history and culture.
Queensland is taking steps towards truth-telling and healing
On 26 April 2024, the Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry (Inquiry), and First Nations Treaty Institute (Institute) Council were established under the Path to Treaty Act 2023, marking an important step for Queensland’s truth-telling and healing process.
Truth-telling will help build community understanding of Queensland’s shared history and support the healing process for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, non-Indigenous people, communities, the state and help Close the Gap.
